MONDAYS WITH MORT

                                             PURIM SONG SHEET

1. Oh Haman was a high and mighty bluff,
In Shu, Shu, Shushan long ago.
He ordered Mordechai to take his derby off
In Shu, Shu, Shushan long ago.

Chorus: So we sing, so we sing, so we sing and raise a row
For Haman he was swinging, while Mordechai was singing,
In Shu, Shu, Shushan long ago.

But Mordechai sat and laughed in his face
In Shu, Shu, Shushan long ago.
So Haman swore he’d exterminate his race
In Shu, Shu, Shushan long ago.

Chorus:

O Esther was a timid little maid
In Shu, Shu, Shushan long ago.
But Mordechai told her she needn’t be afraid
In Shu, Shu, Shushan long ago.

Chorus:

So she went to the king and she gave him a smile
In Shu, Shu, Shushan long ago.
The king he liked her manner and her style
In Shu, Shu, Shushan long ago.

Chorus:

Ahasuerus was a jolly little king
In Shu, Shu, Shushan long ago.
He ordered Haman to take a little swing
In Shu, Shu, Shushan long ago.

Chorus:

2. U-tzu ey-tza v’tu-far (3)
    Dab-ru da-var v’lo ya-kum
    Ki i-ma-nu El.

You may scheme and plot against us, but to no avail. For G-d is with us.

3. Chag Purim Chag Purim Chag gadol hu lay’hu-dim
    Ma-sey-chot ra-asha-nim z’mirot ri-ku-dim
Chorus: Ha-va na-ri-sha rash, rash, rash (3) ba-ra-a-sha-nim.

Purim day, Purim day, Chorus: Let’s make clamor, rah, rah, rah,
Gladsome, joyous holiday, Lusty noises grah, grah, grah,
Happy throngs, singing songs, Loudly cry and shout hurray!
Masked and dancing gay. With your groggers play.

4. I love the day of Purim so!
For then to synagogue I go,
And hear them read the story old,
Of Esther brave and Haman bold.
O Purim O Purim O Purim full of joy
For every, for every Jewish girl and boy.
Have a party, sing a song, turn the grogger loud and long
    Sha-lach Ma-not give and take,
   Eat your Hamantashen cake!
O Purim O Purim O Purim full of joy
For every, for every Jewish girl and boy.

5. Zeh hayom Yom Purim ma-na-im u-ma tov.
   Z’mi-rote n’za-mey-ra v’nis-mach ad eyn sof.

   Haman ha-a-ga-gi az meyt.

This is Purim, people, a joyous holiday
Songs and cheers and hellos, Let’s wend our merry way
Laugh children, laugh, eat hearty and quaff
And marvel at G-d’s wond’rous way
Sing children, your songs, dance merry in throngs,
Remember that wonderful day.

Ha-man ben Ham-da-ta
Ra-sha hu, kol bo,
V’ri-bon kol ha-o-lam
N’ka-ma a-sa vo,
Z’chor Ha-man, z’chor
Na-fal-ta ba-bor,
Ki ni-sim a-sa la-nu El.
Uv’hen pit-chu pe,
Un-za-mer shir ze,
Un’ra-keyd kol ya-mim va-lel.

Haman wicked schemer.
His kind we’ve always known.
But G-d the great Redeemer,
Those fiends has overthrown.
Wait, Haman, Oh wait,
Decreed is your fate,
Avenging and swift is His rod!
Dance children and sing,
Make larger your ring,
In happy thanksgiving to G-d.

Haint is Pirim Brider,
Es iz der Yom-Tov grois,
Lomir zingen lider
Un gein fun hois tzu hois.
Lach, Mordechele, lach,
A yom-tovl mach,
Kinds kinder gedenken dem nes.
Zingt, briderlach, zingt,
Tantz freilach un shpringt
Dem tayern tog nit fargest.

6. Oh once there was a wicked, wicked man
And Haman was his name, sir.
He would have murdered all the Jews
Tho they were not to blame, sir.

Chorus: Oh today we’ll merry, merry be (3)
And “nash” some Homentashen.

And Esther was the lovely queen of king Ahasuerus,
When Haman said he’d kill us all
Oh, my how he did scare us.

Chorus: Oh today we’ll merry, merry be (3)
And “nash” some Homentashen.

But Mordechai her cousin bold,
Said “What a dreadful chutzpah,
If guns were but invented now,
This Haman I would shoot, Sir.”

Chorus: Oh today we’ll merry, merry be (3)
And “nash” some Homentashen.

When Esther speaking to the king
Of Haman’s plot did mention,
“Ha, ha” said he, Oh, no he won’t!
I’ll spoil his bad intention.”

Chorus: Oh today we’ll merry, merry be (3)
And “nash” some Homentashen.

The guest of honor he shall be,
This clever Mr. Smarty.
And high above us he shall swing
At a little hanging party.

Chorus: Oh today we’ll merry, merry be (3)
And “nash” some Homentashen.

Of all his cruel and unkind ways
This little joke did cure him.
And don’t forget we owe him thanks
For this jolly feast of Purim.

Chorus: Oh today we’ll merry, merry be (3)
And “nash” some Homentashen.

7. Sho-sha-nat Ya-a-kov
Tsa-ha-la V’sa-mey-cha
Bir-o-tam ya-chad t’chey-let Mor-d’chai.

Israel rejoiced and was glad
When Mordechai was robed in purple.
